It has also evolved into a weekend for BBQs, spending time outside, and getting together with family and friends. If you want to take advantage of the three-day weekend, we’ve compiled a list of Memorial Day Events in Santa Fe and Albuquerque that will let you have a little fun – or pay your respects to those who have paid the ultimate price in service to our country.
9th Annual Native Treasures: Indian Arts Festival
The Indian Arts Festival takes place very Memorial Day weekend. It showcases more than 200 museaum-quality artists from 40 tribes and pueblos. They will showcase and sell their pottery, jewelry, glass, paintings, sculptures, and other art. It is located at the Santa Fe Convention Center, and will be open on Saturday, May 25 from 10-4 and Sunday, May 2, from 10-4.
Albuquerque Wine Festival
Held every Memorial Day weekend, the Albuquerque Wine Festival brings together wineries from around the state, in addition to food, arts and crafts vendors, and live music. Held at Balloon Fiesta Park, this year it begins on May 25, 2013 and ends on the 27th. Each day it is open from 12-6. Admission is $20, and on Monday, May 27, active military get a $3 discount.
Rio Rancho Parade
On Monday, May 27, 2013, the city of Rio Rancho will have a Memorial Day parade and remembrance ceremony. The parade will kick off at 10 a.m. and the remembrance ceremony will take place at the Veterans Monument Park at approximately 11 a.m.
New Mexico Veteran’s Memorial
The New Mexico Veteran’s Memorial will hold a special ceremony on Monday, May 27, 2013, at 9 am.
