[custom_frame_left][/custom_frame_left]Richard and Mary Ellen Lopez identified a need in their community for accessible, affordable fitness programs for families. Along with their children Audri Marie, Ariana, and Lucas, Richard and Mary Ellen opened Together Strong, a Sante Fe fitness studio offering a variety of services designed to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The Lopez family has always had a love for fitness. A few years ago Richard and Mary Ellen began to get involved in their community by teaching fitness classes. They started as instructors at Fitness Bootcamp, where they continue to teach. Richard and Mary Ellen are both certified personal trainers with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Mary Ellen also is certified with the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and Aerobic and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) and is licensed and certified in additional fitness formats and teaches additional classes such as Zumba®, Turbo Kick®, Hip Hop Hustle,™ and PiYo™ Strength. Richard and Mary Ellen began to realize how important their fitness classes became in the lives of their students, family members, and friends. They started dreaming of building their dream of owning their own fitness studio.

Mary Ellen is a board-certified family nurse practitioner at Arroyo Chamiso Pediatric Clinic. Each day she sees many overweight and obese children and their families in her medical practice. She realized that there weren’t many resources for these families in regard to fitness. Richard is an electronic engineer employed at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a research and development specialist. On a daily basis he shares his knowledge, experience, and expertise as a personal trainer with his co-workers and friends, who otherwise might not be exposed to such knowledge.
With their demanding full-time careers, they knew they would need to find balance in order to make their dream of opening a fitness studio a reality. But through their different experiences as a nurse practitioner and engineer, they realized a real need for affordable, accessible fitness classes for families and set out to do just that. Richard and Mary Ellen opened Together Strong as a place that would allow families to get fit and promote a healthy lifestyle. The goal of their fitness studio is to promote “staying strong together” with our families and friends. When you have a family member or friend meeting you each day to exercise you begin to develop strong healthy relationships based around fitness. To this end, the studio offers a variety of fitness classes, in addition to body care such as massage, Botox, spray tanning, aesthetics, and Herbalife.
By encouraging clients to engage in a healthy lifestyle together, Together Strong continues to promote a greater feeling of well-being in the community and with its families.
