[custom_frame_left][/custom_frame_left] It’s summertime and school is out! For many parents that means trying to figure out what they’re going to do with their kids all summer to avoid hearing those dreaded words: “I’m bored!”
There are many summer programs in the Santa Fe and Albuquerque area that will help keep your kids happy and entertained for the summer, and might even teach them a thing or two. The programs we’ve listed below will fit a variety of budgets and can be tailored to fit the amount of time you need care for your children.
Santa Fe
Children’s Adventure Co. (www.childrensadventurecompany.org)
Children’s Adventure Company offers a summer day camp for kids in Kindergarten – Seventh grade. They offer a variety of daily activities including swimming, kayaking, art projects, hiking, horseback riding, and they will take a weekly field trip. Cost for a week of camp is around $200.
Dragon Fly Art Studio (www.dragonflyartstudioforkids.com)
Dragon Fly Art Studio offers two different summer programs; a 10-week summer camp or you can sign your kids up for a once-weekly art class. Both programs are open to children aged 6-16 and will cover a variety of art techniques including painting, sketching, textiles, sewing, and more. Cost for the 10-week camp is $255 per week. Individual classes cost $480 for 16 classes.
Genoveva Chavez Community Center (www.chavezcenter.com)
The Genoveva Chavez Community Center has a summer camp for kids aged 6-12 that provides a variety of activities including swimming, ice skating, field trips, art projects, and daily gym and sports time. The price is $135 for a week of camp, which includes all-day (7:30-5:30) camp. The Chavez Center also has sports programs for children who would like to learn a sport or improve their skills. These camps are held from 8:30-12 and are $55 a week. You can also combine the day camp and sports camp if you child would like to do both.
Albuquerque
The Growing Stage (www.thegrowingstage.com)
If your child loves to perform and wants to spend some time on the stage, The Growing Stage might be just what you’re looking for. They offer two 3-week summer intensives for kids aged 4-17. Prices aren’t provided on the website, but they do provide contact information if you have any further questions.
Camp BioPark
This program will allow your kids to spend time at the Zoo, Aquarium, Botanical Garden, and Tingley Beach. The camps allow students to learn about plants and animals through hands-on activities, games and art. The programs vary according to the age of the child (the program accepts children in Preschool – Grade 9). Camps also vary in length and duration according to the child’s age. Price ranges from $125-$220 a week.
Vacation Bible Schools
Often, churches host a one-week Vacation Bible School, free of charge. Open to children of all ages, they are usually free of charge. There are many churches in both the Santa Fe and Albuquerque areas hosting Vacation Bible Schools. A simple internet search or an inquiry at your own place of worship should provide you with information about the VBS closest to you.
